Keeping sports fans entertained
An ardent
sports fan may feel that they will have to temporarily put aside their love for all things athletic when they come to Florence, but that is definitely not the case. In addition to every type of art, shopping and cuisine that can please the taste for the aesthetic, the city has plenty for the sports fan as well. Just unpack your bags, settle into your
holiday accommodation in Florence, and ready yourself for some fun.
- Still reveling in “Campioni del Mondo” status until at least 2010, Italians have no shortage of love for football. If you are a fan a bus or taxi ride of only 15 minutes will take you from your holiday apartment in the centre of Florence to the Campo di Marte where the purple clad Fiorentina plays.
- The golf fan will by highly entertained if fortunate enough to arrive in December. Golfers tee off the Ponte Vecchio to floating greens east of the bridge. If the fan were lucky enough to get a seat at the rowing club housed underneath the Uffizi the view is ideal.
- If speed is your need then outside of the city lays the Mugello track owned by Ferrari. One can not only watch the annual road race or view a car rally or see the resident amateurs race. But lessons from professional drivers are also available.
- A late June arrival means the opportunity to observe “Calcio Storico” the rugby style predecessor of modern football and an annual two day event that sparks not only a parade and the games, but also the centuries old neighborhood rivalries of the teams playing.
- Tennis clubs, the rowing club and gyms are also available for those who wish to play in addition to being a spectator.
